This is what I posted a while ago on DC Emu:
I just recently bought a Dreamcast Karaoke system (fairly cheap IMO) and the seller notified me in advance that the online service was down for a while now.
My goal wasn't to go online, but to get the system running offline, as a standalone unit.
The mic CAN be tested offline after loading the DriKara bootdisc, so you could actually set up your sound etc before going online.
Knowing that a karaoke-CD is almost the same structure as a V-CD, I tried if it was possible to get sound from the mic while playing a V-CD (haven't tried with an actual karaoke-CD, but it'll have the same result).
No succes...(duh)
So, my question is this: I have a BBA since last weekend, so I'm gonna try to rip the original DiKara bootdisc. I'd like to have an implementation of the bits from the DriKara bootdisc that enable the sound COMBINED with a bootdisc for V-CD.
So, the endresult will be: a bootdisc for V-CD/karaoke-CD that works with the mics for an on-the-fly audio-dub, reviving the DriKara as an offline karaoke system.
I was just wondering if it would be possible to construct such a disc?
Quzar stated it's on his to do list, but still no word on that one though...
Thanks,
Tom |

This sounds like a really interesting project. Can you link some information on the DriKara system? (for us lazy people) ^_^ _________________ Shop Cryptic Allusion's Amazon Store!

Yeah, but I remember seeing another one somewhere for about the same amount I paid (€ 40).
If i find it, I'll post the link. |

And that comes from someone who ordered several copies of Legendary Edition of Halo 3 ... It's not that bad a price if you want it right away, no trouble, no eBay. _________________ Scratch & Sniff Signature: Scratch Here ► ▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓ ◄ |

Touche! Just to be clear, I only ordered 2 Legendaries, and one regular (so I can be sure to get it the day of release...the two Legendaries were ordered online).
Yeah, I know: some defense that was! _________________ Shop Cryptic Allusion's Amazon Store!

That's not nearly as bad as $140, but it's used and still $70. Kinda crazy. This thing must've been kind of rare. _________________ Shop Cryptic Allusion's Amazon Store!

It's enough with DriKara being exclusive to Japan. Have you seen the game prices? It's insane how high they can get when it comes to japanese releases of more popular titles, especially shoot 'em ups.
Plus when a new game is being released, it's immediately sold out and then you can be sure that you'll see it on eBay for five times the price. I hate the idiots who profit this way. Buy a bunch of limited print games and rip people off.
Luckily, there are japanese online stores. These are, for obvious reasons, hard for gaijins to penetrate, which means they usually have in stock what you're looking for. Even though it would be tough to find a Dreamcast Karaoke unit in one of such stores, if it's there, I'm sure it's way below the $70. _________________ Scratch & Sniff Signature: Scratch Here ► ▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓ ◄ |

At first I didn't think I would get the Legendary. It is kind of pricey and as far as I know it doesn't offer anything above the Limited Edition content wise. It's basically Limited Edition plus the helmet.
Three days ago I popped into one of the game stores near me and noticed they got one Legendary. Unopened and all. I went home, did some thinking, ran a monthly budget and came to the conclusion that I could get it and still be able to buy food to last me to the next paycheck.
I went back to the store the next day and guess what. I watched some guy but the thing. I was like five minutes late. All turned out well however. I found one online. Even though it did cost a bit more, plus the shipping, I got one.
Have you guys heard about any kind of special edition of The Orange Box? I'm planning on getting it when it comes out but I'd rather buy a limited edition if there will be one.
*sigh* Damn ... This hobby really does cost. This month I've managed to order some cool stuff but I'm pretty much broke, four days after I got paid. Nice. But hey ... I'll be getting a unboxed Final Fantasy WonderSwan Color bundle and some pretty neat dojin games. Plus the previously mentioned Halo 3. _________________ Scratch & Sniff Signature: Scratch Here ► ▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓ ◄ |

If Halo 3 Legendary hadn't come with the helmet, I would have snubbed it for costing more than the collector's edition plus another disc. The helmet is so well done, and such a symbolic icon for the game that I (and most people that are Halo fans) couldn't pass it up. It's not something you can download on a Torrent, or watch on YouTube, like all the other content on the discs. Is it worth 120 bucks? Eh...maybe...but my bet is that it will be sentimentally worth more in the future to all those adults that wanted it, and didn't get it (when they were kids).
Actually, there is some extra content in the Legendary vs. the Collector's ed. There's an entire extra disc which is worth watching, IMO. It's pretty funny. The video with Jen Taylor talking to fans of the Halo series is priceless, since most of them recognize her voice and have no idea who she is. You can just see them being unable to place who she is.
As far as cost: yep...it's like Anime and pretty much any other collecting hobby: any CCG, any tabletop games, manga (if you collect), etc. They all give you a hefty dose of Walletsuck Syndrome. (open your wallet and hear the whooshing vacuum of having no money)
To get us back on topic: what games are you speaking about in your last post (the ones that cost a lot)? Are these Drikara specific? If so, was I under the incorrect impression that all the necessary software came in the box, and you purchased stuff over the Net. _________________ Shop Cryptic Allusion's Amazon Store!

I know this has nothing to do with DriKara but what the heck ... You wouldn't delete an entry when they're so few these days, would you? Hehe. Anyways...
I got my Legendary Edition today and I went through the extra discs. I watched the Jen Taylor video and I must say, that's some pretty funny stuff. Jen and her notorious "Bet you can't stick it...". I found the Matt Cox part of the video particularly funny. He goes on and on about Cortana and how he listened to her for hours ... Just there Jen's hints are priceless. And the final comment by Matt:
