News and Interesting Articles
1) Roddy got a new job! Programming in the game industry! FINALLY!
2) Discuss E3 - Wii U, PS Wonderbook, Microsoft Surface, Xbox games, etc.
3) There’s this crazy business with producer Ron Rosenberg from Crystal Dynamics “saying” that you’ll ‘want to protect’ the new Lara Croft. It’s a quote from this Kotaku interview: http://kotaku.com/5917400/youll-want-to-protect-the-new-less-curvy-lara-croft. It has generated quite a lot of discussion in the gaming community (see here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=478013) and even made it into mass media coverage (http://www.ingame.msnbc.msn.com/technology/ingame/lara-croft-sexual-assault-survivor-no-victim-829970). What do we think Mr. Rosenberg actually meant?
4) The new Steel Batallion is getting (unfortunately) bashed:
3.5 out of 10 from GameSpot: http://www.gamespot.com/steel-battalion-heavy-armor/
1 out of 5 stars from GiantBomb’s Brad Shoemaker: http://www.giantbomb.com/steel-battalion-heavy-armor/61-32695/reviews/
And 41 overall (out of 100) on Metacritic: http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/steel-battalion-heavy-armor/critic-reviews
Needless to say: OUCH! This is such a shame, as the original game had that ginormous controller which was so fun to break out and show off. If you need a more in-depth look at the game, GiantBomb has one of their infamous quick looks (27 minutes long!) linked in the review above.
5) Highly related to the above is this: http://www.destructoid.com/i-am-officially-done-with-the-kinect-229792.phtml
An op-ed piece from Destructoid that says what Roddy has been thinking since Kinect launched: lots of legitimate gamers got “suckered” into paying for a beta test. The Kinect hardware is a wonderful idea, but lacking in implementation sufficient for the core gamer to have a valid experience.
6) Not necessarily game related (although it could be in the future), but fun to think about nonetheless - Dolby is rolling out a new audio system for theaters called “Atmos”. 62.2 channels, anyone? See info and video demonstration here: http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/16/dolby-atmos-brave-theater-locations/
7) Newly embiggened 3DS-XL. It's 90% larger than its predecessor. Why didn't Big N release this info during E3? Because it's a non-Japanese trade show?
Cool There is another article that goes here... *sigh*... It was Alex's! Whatever it was, I'm sure you'll figure it out Smile
